The truth told.

The untold stories of the Reconstruction Period, during and following the Civil War, have been buried in the annals of history for too long while many of the often mis-told and misunderstood stories are still taught to our children.

Second Founding of America: Reconstruction Era is a not-for-profit corporation, working in collaboration with The Community Foundation of the Lowcountry. Our mission is to uncover the truth and to tell and teach missing parts of our nation's history. Watch the video below to learn more.

Sharing Common Ground

SHARING COMMON GROUND is leading the engagement of Middle School students (grades 6-8) in discovering stories buried in American history. These young people are led to uncover, learn about and interactively share with each other (along with families, friends and communities) the untold and often mistold stories of freed slaves and their suffering and achievements in the Reconstruction era during after the American Civil War.

Net proceeds from the sale of this book go to funding Second Founding of America: Reconstruction Era and the Reconstruction Education Network.

Due to COVID - 19, the Second Founding of America Multicultural Learning Center will be closed until further notice. Thank you for your cooperation.

The Reconstruction Era National Historic Network is an initiative by the National Park Service that includes sites and programs that are affiliated with the Reconstruction Era. Second Founding of America: Reconstruction Era supports this project. To learn more, click below.
